Depending on the severity of the water leak there are some signs that point to an emergency water mitigation issue with low pressure on the city side or water mitigation on the home owners side depending on where the pipe break occurs. We received a call this morning for water restoration in Charlotte due to a pipe burst outside of the customers home. The customer woke up this morning to water coming into the home from outside and noticed water damage effecting the walls in the front and side of the home along with water damaged floors that where completely saturated from the water slowly rushing in. For the past week they have had issues with low water pressure which is the reason we had to provide water damage cleanup services for them due to a water main break in their front yard. The need for water mitigation services could have been completely avoided but they were unaware there was an issue with the water main.

Pipe Burst In Charlotte
We received a second call for water mitigation in Charlotte this afternoon from a customer named Mindy, a homeowner in the Myers Park Community in Charlotte, NC. After coming home from work this afternoon she noticed water rushing down her driveway and coming from her front door. Once she made it inside she followed the sound of water to find it coming from a broken supply line under her kitchen sink. She contacted us for water restoration services and we rush over to repair the broken pipe and get started with water mitigation and demo. We immediately started the water extraction process and had to do a lot of demo work to the floors and cabinetry because of the amount time and structural materials that sustained water damage. After the demo was complete we set-up the drying equipment hopeful everything will be dry in three days. The drying process is one of the most important steps in the water mitigation process to prevent mold and to minimize water damage.

The pipe break was near the washing machine water line broken not far from the valve. After arriving the water was still coming out of the wall and we had to turn off the water from the street before we could move forward with the process of water damage cleanup

Older Home Leak and Water Damage Cleanup
This morning we received a call for water mitigation in Charlotte from a home on Wesley Heights way near downtown Charlotte. Most of the homes in the neighborhood where built in the 1920’s and 1930’s which means some of the plumbing is older in the houses in the community which makes some of the houses susceptible to water damage. This is actually the 2nd home on the street we serviced for water damage cleanup this year. The homeowner was in the process of making major upgrades and as he was installing a new toilet in the bathroom the pipe broke on the shut off valve shortly after working on it. The homeowner wanted to keep as much of the original structure and features of the home as possible but did not think about the risk older plumbing can have which it comes to water restoration. The exact reason some pipes break or burst can vary with each situation but in this can when the toilet was removed and installed disturbing the old pipe resulted in a small break in the pipe that led to a large water leak while they were not hope causing a large amount of water damage

Laundry Room Water Leak
Water damage can be worst depending on the location of the source and with current standards of new home construction some things such as convenience are not well thought out and increase the need for a water restoration company to clean up instances of water damage in your home. Today’s call for water mitigation in Charlotte was a prime example of how the design of your home increases the chances and amount of water damage that happens when a leak occurs. While washing cloths the clamp on the drain hose became loose and drained all cycles of water onto the floor creating a large amount of water damage in the laundry room with saturated baseboards, drywall, and flooring. The water damage in the laundry room was somewhat to be expected in this type of situation but there was also water damage in the bathroom because of the location of the laundry room and how the water leaked everywhere due to the loose hose. The laundry room was on the second floor directly above the bathroom. It was made that way as a convenient design for homeowners. This is a good idea if washing machines never fail and leak water throughout your home. Because washing machine hoses can break and appliances fail from time to time due to the location of the laundry room and the risk of water damage it’s location was not a good idea and made today’s water restoration job more difficult.
